Playstation 5

1- PlayStation 5

With PlayStation 5, Sony's game plan is crystal clear - release a heavyweight console (albeit with only the second digital alternative on the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition), build a lineup of PlayStation exclusive games and link to other studios for more exclusivity, then sell individually. (At premium rate) and no as part of any tempting subscription, as is the case with Microsoft Xbox Game Pass. It's hard to argue with this strategy. It worked so well that the PlayStation 4 sold more than double the Xbox One. Sony clearly the leader in console gaming, and isn't looking to bother the apple wagon. He's not interested in alternative models to appeal to all types of consumers, but that doesn't mean the PS5 is a slouch. It can easily go from toe to toe with the Xbox Series X and Series S.

The PS5 is capable of playing in native 4K resolution at 60 frames per second (fps), although it seems that most Sony's first-party titles won't care about the latter. Sony says you can even hit 8K or 120 frames per second, assuming you have the hardware to carry it. However, PlayStation 5 will offer better graphics and more consistent performance than the PS4 era. Then there is the promise of ray tracing, which equates to realistic lighting, dynamic environments and subtle reflections. Moreover, the PS5 promises faster load times thanks to the solid state drive (SSD) that replaces the hard disk drive (HDD). You might never see a loading screen in games on a PS5, and open-world games should feel more smoothly than ever.

In contrast, this means that beloved PlayStation Studios franchises should look more authentic than ever. Whether robotic dinosaurs in Horizon Forbidden West (Guerrilla Games), New York City in Marvel's Spider-Man (Insomniac Games and San Mateo Studio), Gravity Rush Mechanics (Japan Studio), Dystopia The Final Part of Us II (Naughty Dog), and the thriller Gran Turismo (Polyphony Digital), the God of War Extension (Santa Monica Studio), or the duel in Ghost of Tsushima (Sucker Punch). Sony might not have as many studios as Microsoft (23 in total) now but it does have a few more: Bend Studio (Days Gone), London Studio (Blood & Truth), Media Molecule (Dreams), Pixel opus (Concrete Genie), and San Diego Studio (MLB The Show).

Sony appears to be lagging behind the PS5 in introducing the next-generation console. As of now, it will be launched on November 12 in the US, Canada, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Australia and New Zealand; And November 19 in the rest of the world. But we don't have a release date in India yet. Sony India had launched on November 19 on its website before the date was revised. Even in countries with a release date for the PlayStation 5, pre-orders have been a mess, something Sony has apologized for. And while it promised to introduce more PS5 units, it has since been silent. Microsoft has done a much better job in this regard. Not only are Xbox Series X and Series S launching in India at the same time as elsewhere, but Microsoft has also done a better job with pre-orders.

Sony introduces two new PlayStation devices for next-gen games just like Microsoft, but keeps things simple. The only difference between PS5 and PS5 Digital Edition is that the former has a 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray drive and the latter does not. As a result, the PlayStation 5 has a higher starting price than the Xbox Series family.

The Digital Edition of PlayStation 5 costs Rs. 39,990 in India, 400 dollars (about 29,500 rupees) in the US, 360 pounds (about 34,400 rupees) in the United Kingdom, 500 Canadian dollars (about 27,600 rupees) in Canada, 400 euros (about 34,800 rupees) in Europe and the African Union 600 Dollars (about 32,300 rupees) in Australia, 650 NZ dollars (about 31,400 rupees) in New Zealand, and 39,980 yen (about 28,000 rupees) in Japan.

Its more expensive brother, the PlayStation 5, comes at Rs. 49,990 in India, $ 500 (about 36,800 rupees) in the United States, 450 pounds (about 43,000 rupees) in the United Kingdom, 630 Canadian dollars (about 34,800 rupees) in Canada, 500 euros (about 43,500 rupees) in Europe and the African Union 750 Dollars (about 40,300 rupees) in Australia, 820 NZ dollars (about 39,600 rupees) in New Zealand, and 49,980 Japanese yen (about 35,000 rupees) in Japan. Keep in mind, not all of these prices include sales taxes in every market.

You have to pay the full amount up front since Sony does not have a subscription program, unlike Microsoft Xbox All Access for the Xbox Series X and Series S.

2- PS5: Specifications

Before we dive in, here's a comparison between the PS5 and PS5 Digital Edition -

Weight 4.5 kg (9.92 lbs) 3.9 kg (8.59 lbs)

As you can see, there are no differences in terms of specifications between PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Digital Edition. Both have the same specially designed AMD RDNA 2 graphics unit and an octa-core AMD Zen 2 CPU as the X Series and Series S.

The PS5 GPU scored higher (2.23GHz) but had fewer compute units (36) than the new Xbox consoles. This results in a total GPU power of 10.28 teraflops, less than the 12.15 teraflops run by the X Series, but it's not a direct comparison because the PS5 is variable frequency (GHz) capable.

Even with the CPU, the PS5 is again capable of variable frequency. While Xbox consoles have two clock speeds - 3.8GHz / 3.6GHz with SMT for the X series, and 3.6GHz / 3.4GHz with SMT for the S series - the PS5 clocks at 3.5GHz with simultaneous multithreading (SMT).

It is not clear what will work best, but it will likely vary from situation to situation.

PS5 with 4K Blu-ray Drive

The PlayStation 5 has the same amount of memory (16 GB of RAM) as the Series X, but 175 GB less storage space on a solid-state drive (SSD), although the playback capacity of both is unclear.

Microsoft announced that Series X and Series S will support Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Atmos 3D for gaming. Sony has its own Tempest 3D AudioTech technology for the PS5, but there is no information available about Dolby Vision HDR support for gaming.

As we mentioned earlier, the only difference between PS5 and PS5 Digital Edition is that the latter does not have a drive. Just as the name says, the PS5 Digital Edition is a digital only edition which means that you will have to purchase and download all of your games from the internet.

You can expand PlayStation 5 storage with any external SSD, as long as it's as fast as the storage inside the PS5. Sony is taking a more open approach in this regard unlike Microsoft, which has partnered with Seagate on an official expansion card.

Finally, the PS5 is thicker (1.2 cm) and heavier (600 g) than the PS5 Digital Edition due to its 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray drive. Both are much larger than the Xbox Series X, not to mention the Series S.

3- PS5: DualSense controller

While Microsoft keeps things pretty much with the new Xbox Wireless Controller, Sony has made a major overhaul with the PS5 console. Now called DualSense instead of DualShock, the PS5 controller takes a whole new look, but of course all the buttons are still in the same places you're used to. This includes the touch bar, although the light bar is now more distinct.

Sony is also introducing haptic feedback to DualSense, after a generation Microsoft got it with the Xbox One controller. Hopefully, with both console ends on board, more third-party developers will now take advantage of this feature. It's supposed to offer a more realistic feel when firing a weapon, such as the ability to feel the tension of the bow tendon on your finger using DualSense's "adaptive triggers" (the L2 and R2).

PS5 Dualsense PlayStation 5 Dualsense controller

Plus, the DualSense controller has a built-in microphone and a USB-C port for charging. The "Share" button is now called "Create." And yes, the most obvious thing: DualSense has a black and white two-tone color scheme to match the look of the console.

Sony has not said if there will be more DualSense color variants at launch. You will get one with the PS5 and PS5 Digital Edition.

The DualSense controller costs more than the DualShock 4 at Rs. 5990 in India, 70 dollars (about 5,200 rupees) in the US, 60 pounds (about 5,650 rupees) in the United Kingdom, 90 Canadian dollars (about 4,970 rupees) in Canada, 70 euros (about 6,100 rupees) in Europe, African Union $ 110 (about 5,730 rupees) in Australia, 125 NZ dollars (about 6,050 rupees) in New Zealand, and 6,980 yen (about 4,900 rupees) in Japan.

You might not need to purchase additional consoles if you have friends or family joining them, as DualShock 4 controllers and other officially licensed PS4 controllers will work on the PS5, but only with PS4 games.

4- PS5: Accessories

Sony does not drop support for all PS4 accessories. Officially licensed racing wheels, arcade sticks, and flying sticks will work with PS5 games. PS Move Motion controllers, PlayStation VR Aim Controller and PlayStation Camera will also work with PS VR games supported on PS5. You will need a PlayStation Camera adapter for PS5, which Sony will provide for free for PS VR users.

A new PlayStation HD camera ships with the PlayStation 5, which can be captured in HD (1080p) and has a built-in adjustable stand that helps you connect it to your TV. Moreover, the new PlayStation HD camera is able to remove the background around you and put you in the game scene, just like a Zoom video call with a default wallpaper.

PlayStation HD Camera costs Rs. 5,190 in India, $ 59.99 (about 4,500 rupees) in the US, 50 pounds (about 4,700 rupees) in the United Kingdom, 80 Canadian dollars (about 4,400 rupees) in Canada, 60 euros (about 5,300 rupees) ) In Europe, the AU is $ 98 (about 5,100 rupees) in Australia, 110 NZ dollars (around 5,300 rupees) in New Zealand, and 5,980 yen (about 4,200 rupees) in Japan.

Another new accessory is the Pulse 3D Wireless Headset, designed to make the most of the PS5's 3D sound technology. It also has dual noise-canceling microphones, a USB-C port for charging, a 3.5mm headphone jack to make it wired, and a built-in adapter that works with PS4, PS5, Windows, and macOS.

The Pulse 3D Wireless Headphone costs Rs. 8,590 in India, 100 dollars (about 7,400 rupees) in the US, 90 pounds (about 8,470 rupees) in the United Kingdom, 130 Canadian dollars (about 7,170 rupees) in Canada, 100 euros (about 8,700 rupees) in Europe, African Union $ 160 (about 8,330 rupees) in Australia, 180 NZ dollars (about 8,675 rupees) in New Zealand, and 9,980 yen (about 7,000 rupees) in Japan.

Sony also introduces a DualSense Charging Station that allows you to charge two DualSense controllers at the same time by docking them. It costs Rs. 2590 in India, 30 dollars (about 2,200 rupees) in the US, 25 pounds (about 2,350 rupees) in the United Kingdom, 40 Canadian dollars (about 2,200 rupees) in Canada, 30 euros (about 2,600 rupees) in Europe, African Union $ 50 (about 2,600 rupees) in Australia, 55 NZ dollars (about 2,650 rupees) in New Zealand, and 2,980 yen (about 2,100 rupees) in Japan.

This leaves a new PS5 Media Remote designed for those who plan to use the PS5 as an entertainment center as well. In addition to required play / pause, fast forward, rewind, menu, rewind, volume control, and directional keys, the PlayStation 5 Media Remote also has a volume button and four shortcuts for Netflix, Disney +, Spotify, and YouTube.

The PS5 Media Remote costs Rs.

If you choose the PS5 Digital Edition, you'll need to download every game you play, as there is no disc slot. Of course, even with the regular PS5, you'll still need a good internet connection to download updates and patches. But with the digital version, you are looking for an even greater need for fast broadband.

And with all of the new 4K capable PlayStation 5 consoles, that means game sizes will only increase. The big games today, as with the likes of Red Dead Redemption 2, are already over 100GB. Expect this to be the standard going forward, with downloading files only increasing as we delve into the next generation.

Finally, since the PS5 Digital Edition is only a digital edition, you cannot share games with your friends. There is no possibility to resell games either or play used games. This is great for game publishers but not so much for consumers. With both Microsoft and Sony refusing to localize prices for PlayStation and Xbox games (as opposed to Steam for PC) in markets like India, the market for used games can help you save a significant amount of money.

You should also look at your PS4 disc games, for those who offer a free upgrade to their PS5 releases. If you bought a PlayStation 5 Digital Edition, you wouldn't be able to grab the free upgrade mentioned for your PS4 titles, as Sony needs to insert your PS4 disc into your PS5 to authenticate the purchase. This isn't a problem if all of your PS4 purchases are truly digital.

5- PS5: Games

We've talked a lot about hardware but what matters in the end with any console are the games you can play.

At launch, Sony is introducing five PS5 games from PlayStation Studios. This includes the spin-off Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Destruction AllStars vehicle fighter, Demon's Souls remake, 3D Sackboy: A Big Adventure, and Astro's Playroom which looks a lot like a demo of DualSense capabilities.

Unlike Microsoft, Sony has already revealed pricing for its PlayStation Studios titles. Instead of Rs. 3,999, PS5 games can now come to Rs. 4,999 in India. For those in the US, that means $ 70 instead of $ 60.

Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Sacboy: Big Adventure at Rs. 3,999 and $ 50 / $ 60, respectively, while Demon Souls and Destruction AllStars will cost $ 70 / Rs. 4,999, the new maximum price. And oh, Astro's Playroom is free and will come pre-installed with every PS5.

The PS5 will also enjoy a host of third-party titles that will also be available in the Xbox Series family. This includes Assassin's Creed Valhalla, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, Destiny 2: Beyond Light, Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition, Dirt 5, Fortnite, Marvel's Avengers, and Watch Dogs Legion.

Moreover, Sony is offering a total of 18 PS4 games as part of its PlayStation Plus collection for PS5. Naturally, you'll need a PS Plus subscription to play it. The list includes Batman: Arkham Knight, Battlefield 1, Bloodborne, Days Gone, Detroit: Become Human, Fallout 4, Final Fantasy XV, God of War, Infamous Second Son, Monster Hunter World, Mortal Kombat X, Persona 5, Ratchet and Clank, Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, The Last Guardian, The Last of Us Remastered, Uncharted 4: A Thief's End, and Until Dawn.

The PlayStation Plus collection looks like a response of sorts to the Xbox Game Pass subscription, which offers over 100 Xbox One titles and all upcoming Xbox Game Studios games, over 100 Windows 10 games, and EA Play that offers even more new EA games and free experiences Toys.

As we move past the launch, Sony has several exclusive PlayStation Studios offer. Sony says Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart arrives at the 'launch window'. An expected sequel - Horizon Forbidden West and God of War: Ragnarök - are set for 2021. There's Gran Turismo 7 in the making, and a sci-fi shooter called Returnal, both from Sony.

Sony has also managed some third-party exclusive shows, including Final Fantasy XVI, Square Enix's Project Athia, GhostWire: Tokyo from Tango Gameworks (recently acquired by Microsoft), and Deathloop from Dishonored, Arkane Studios (now also with Microsoft). The last of them will be launched in 2020, GhostWire: Tokyo is set for 2021, while the other two versions have yet to be launched.

6- PS5: Backward compatibility

"99 percent" of PS4 games will be played on PS5, according to PlayStation Chairman Jim Ryan. But we don't know the 1 percent percentage, i.e. PS4 titles aren't backwards compatible. Your purchased PlayStation 4 games can be downloaded simply digitally on PlayStation 5. It will also accept PS4 discs, unless you choose PS5 Digital Edition.

But unlike Microsoft, Sony hasn't said much about improving PS4 games for PS5. A "limited" number of PS4 and PlayStation VR titles will be "boosted" for higher, more consistent frame rates, Sony says, but that's it. Nothing about 4K HDR, faster load times, etc., as is the case with Xbox Series.

For what it's worth, Sony also allows developers to offer free next-generation upgrades, if there's a PS4 game also on the PS5. Sony, however, does not stick to this matter well. While Microsoft will offer free Xbox series upgrades for Xbox One titles like Forza Horizon 4 and Gears 5, Sony will make PS5 owners pay for an upgraded version of Marvel's Spider-Man.

Moreover, Sony has yet to say anything about backward compatibility with PS5 after the PS4 era. While Microsoft supports hundreds of games from the original Xbox One and Xbox, Sony said that the PS3, PS2 and PS1 games will not work on the PS5 at launch, if any.

Again, for what it's worth, some old titles are available with the PlayStation Now cloud gaming service. But there are two problems on this front as well. PS Now is only available in 19 countries: Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

Additionally, Sony has yet to announce when PlayStation Now will be available on PlayStation 5. At this time, PS Now is only available on PS4 and Windows.

PS5: Upgrade from PS4, PS4 Slim, or PS4 Pro

Now that we've covered every aspect of the PS5, some of you who already have a PS4 at home might be wondering: Should I upgrade? It depends on what you are looking for.

If you want to be able to play all the new exclusive games on PlayStation 5, then don't jump on the PS5. The first crop of PlayStation Studios PS5 titles - Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Sackboy: A Big Adventure, and Horizon Forbidden West - will also be available on PS4.

We don't know how that changes beyond Horizon Forbidden West. The Gran Turismo 7 trailer (no release date) simply says "PlayStation Exclusive" while the trailer for GhostWire: Tokyo (arriving in 2021) is called "PlayStation 5 Console Exclusive" Of course, third-party developers (such as Tango) are not obligated. Gameworks of Bethesda) continues to support PS4.

Of course, just getting support isn't everything. As you can expect, the new Spider-Man: Miles Morales should look completely different, depending on whether you have a PS5, PS4 Pro, PS4 Slim, or PS4. There is simply no way for a seven-year-old console (like the PS4) to keep up with performance as the next generation launch in November (the PS5).

While the PS4 technically promises full HD gaming, it wasn't achieving that in later years. Games like Just Cause 4, Tekken 7, Soulcalibur 6, and Ace Combat 7 failed to deliver the original 1080p, and at times dropped to 720p.

The differences will be minimized if you have a mid-generation PS4 Pro upgrade, which was already running at either 4K or 60fps resolution. Although he was fair, he was only able to on paper. In fact, most of the big games never reach this number.

Dishonored 2, Fallout 4, and Uncharted 4 remain around 1,440 pixels wide, Middle Earth: Shadow of War and Battlefield 1 hover around the 1620 pixel mark, Final Fantasy XIV manages to have 1,800p resolution, while Sony's The Last Guardian hit 1900 pixels wide on the PS4 Pro .

With the PlayStation 5, Sony promises that games will run at 4K 60fps, although Digital Foundry has found that most Sony's first-party titles seem to aim at 4K 30fps. Spider-Man: Miles Morales is one of the few games to feature 4K resolution at 60fps, although it will be categorized as an optional performance mode.

The PS5 is able to expand to 8K / 120 frames per second, for what it's worth. But you will need more advanced screens, with a refresh rate of 120Hz and support for 8K resolution, to take advantage of these features. Make sure it is an HDMI 2.1 compatible display.
